Hello! I'm Jessica Bowen, and I'd like to welcome you to my electronic portfolio. This e-folio is designed to give you a concise, organized introduction to my professional experience and my skills - particularly those learned and refined through the Master's in Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Education program at San Francisco State University. Most of my career, as you will see, has been devoted to adolescent health, reproductive health, and comprehensive sexuality education. I began my career as an intern with Planned Parenthood-Chicago Area during my undergraduate experience at Northwestern University. I graduated from NU in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Speech (double major in Communication Studies and Anthropology). I soon realized that, while my communication skills were valuable, my true passion was in using those skills to promote open discussion about sexual health. I have served as a Community Health Educator and Clinic Counselor/Medical Assistant for Planned Parenthood, an Office Manager for the Youth Leadership Institute, and a Reproductive Health Research and Programs Coordinator for the UCSF Center for Reproductive Health Research & Policy. I have also been a Program Associate with Health & Education Communication Consultants - a public health consulting firm. Currently, I am a Community Educator with the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of San Mateo County. For more information on my career, please click the "Resume" link to the left. For detailed information on my coursework in the SFSU MPH program, click on "Competencies in Public Health." Please explore this site, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jesbowen@sfsu.edu. Enjoy! |
